Healthy Gums Affect A Person's Longevity

On average, a person with healthy gums and free of caries has a longevity between 7 to 10 years more than people who neglect their teeth.

A Recent Patient Experience

I recently had a patient who came back after about 5 years, and I recognized she had a big scar all the way from her lip down to her throat. The last time I saw her was in 2018. I asked her what happened to her lip and her face, and she told me she had melanoma, the most aggressive and invasive skin cancer. It had to spread into the lymph nodes, so she had to undergo surgery to remove the lesion. It's very invasive, and if she had seen a dentist regularly, we could have detected oral cancer or skin cancer in the head or neck early, and she could have avoided the problem.

I emphasize again, this is why you need to see a dentist regularly to have optimal oral health and to detect oral and skin cancer early.
